Course Objectives
Learning Outcomes The students who succeeded in this course;
  • On successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
  • Demonstrate an indepth understanding of distributed database technology,
  • Learn how to implement transaction management and concurrency control in distributed database management systems,
  • Competent in designing distributed databases in the presence of fragmentation and replication,
  • Learn serializability theory for assessing the correctness of optimistic and pessimistic concurrency control algorithms which are based on either locking or timestamp ordering,
  • Understand the concept of the reliability of a distributed database management system and learn distributed recovery and commit protocols in the presence of site failures and network partitioning.
